How durable is Forest Red Iron-gum?

Does Forest Red Iron-gum need to be chemically treated?
No. The heartwood is naturally resistant to termites, pests and decay without any chemical preservative treatment. This is part of what makes it such a long-lasting decking choice in Australian outdoor conditions.
What does kiln dried mean and why does it matter for decking?
Kiln drying is a controlled process that reduces the moisture content of the timber before you install it. For decking this means the boards will shrink and move less. Non kiln dried timber can grow / shrink a significant amount and usually requires more work to 'season' it before they're screwed onto the deck. ('Season' refers to wetting the timber and allowing it to dry naturally multiple times)
Is Forest Red Iron-gum suitable for bushfire prone areas?
Forest Red Iron-gum is suitable for use in areas with a requirement of BAL 12.5 to 19, and all AS3959 required applications.
What finish should I use on Forest Red Iron-gum decking?
A quality penetrating timber oil like QCoat is recommended. Because this timber has natural oils of its own, apply thin coats the first time and allow each coat to absorb fully before adding another. Build up gradually for the best result rather than applying one heavy coat.
How often does Iron-gum decking need to be oiled?
Generally once to twice a year depending on sun exposure and foot traffic. Boards in full sun will need more frequent attention than shaded areas. What's the difference between S&B and Select grade decking timbers?
S&B (Standard and Better) is the premium grade with fewer natural characteristics like knots and gum veins. Select grade is more economical but will have more natural variation across the boards. Both grades share the same structural integrity and durability, the difference is in appearance.
What fixings should I use for Iron-gum decking?
Grade 316 stainless steel screws is the best option. Pre-drilling is essential given the density of this timber. Attempting to drive screws without pre-drilling risks splitting the boards, particularly near the ends.
Is Iron Gum good for a pool deck?
