Wondering which way the ripple should face? You should always place the ripple downwards as it allows better airflow underneath the deck. This reduces the risk of cupping or moisture damage.

Why should I choose pre-oiled merbau decking?
Buying pre-oiled decking means the boards are ready to install right away. With regular decking that does not come pre-oiled, the timber requires x3 coats of oil before installation, with sufficient drying time between each layer. This significantly increases the amount of time spent getting the boards ready for install and will make a project take far longer to finish.
Can I choose the lengths of decking?
No. The nature of random length (LM) decking is that you will recieve a range of lengths in your order closest to the metreage ordered. Boards supplied may include short lengths.
What is pre-oiled merbau decking?
Pre-oiled merbau decking is hardwood decking that has been coated with decking oil before supply. The oil enhances the natural colour and provides initial protection against weather exposure.
Do I still need to oil pre-oiled decking after installation?
Yes. Pre-oiling gives the boards protection during transport and installation, but a maintenance coat is recommended once the deck is laid. This helps seal cut ends and give the final deck surface an event surface colour.
Does pre-oiled merbau still bleed tannins?
Yes. Merbau is a hardwood that naturally contains tannins and some leaching can still occur, especially during the first few rainfalls. Make sure runoff won’t stain surrounding surfaces like concrete or paving.
Does pre-oiled decking mean lower maintenance?
Not exactly. It gives you a head start, but regular cleaning and re-oiling are still required to keep the deck protected and looking fresh.
Do I need to oil the cut ends?
Yes. All cut ends should be sealed with a decking oil during installation to prevent moisture ingress and help reduce movement.
Is pre-oiled merbau suitable for full sun areas?
Yes, but like all timber decking, it will weather and fade over time if not maintained. Regular oiling helps maintain colour and minimise surface checking.
How often should I re-oil merbau decking?
Most decks need re-oiling every 6-12 months, depending on traffic, exposure and appearance. High-traffic or full sun decks may require more frequent maintenance.
