Every DIYer’s Guide to Selecting the Best Timber Decking

If you’re looking for timber decking in Brisbane or Sydney, you have come to the right place. We have a great selection of high quality timber decking for low prices. We even have a display deck at our facility where you can check out different timbers and finishes.

Factors for Choosing the Right Timber Decking Material

One of the first factors is usage: how do you plan to use your timber deck? Do you want to use it as an alfresco entertaining area and have BBQ parties? Do you want it to be even more elaborate with a flat screen TV? Or do you just want a place where you can lounge by yourself and enjoy a cold beverage and a book?

Aesthetics are another factor for selecting the right timber decking. We supply decking materials made out of timber and out of composite. Composite is made of reclaimed and recycled sawdust, with plastic fillers. Timber decking, of course, is timber cut from sustainably harvested trees.

Hardwood vs Treated Pine vs Composite

Hardwoods are the most durable and provide natural protection against microbes and pests such as termites. We are partial to Merbau, also known as Kwila, but there are many other hardwoods, such as Blackbutt, Pacific Jarrah and Mixed Hardwoods.

Pine is softer but still durable. However, it must be treated with ACQ, which stands for Alkaline Copper Quaternary, to protect it against microbes and termites.

Composite is safe from microbes and termites but not as strong or durable as either hardwood or pine. However, it is easier for DIY projects because it has a series of grooves which makes it easier to put together.
